Silicon Valley parlor games have everyone in Silicon Valley guessing about the future of former star investment banker Frank Quattrone. But he’s donating at least some of his time to preserving the past and propelling the future.

The Tech Museum of Innovation announced Tuesday that Quattrone will take over as chairman of its board. He succeeds Michael Hackworth, chairman of Cirrus Logic, who is stepping down after two terms.

A longtime member of the museum board, Quattrone became a model philanthropist during his drawn out legal tussle with federal prosecutors who failed in their efforts to make him the fall guy for the dot-com bust. He has used his powerful connections to help build the museum from garage startup to global keeper of Silicon Valley lore and history. He takes special delight in inspiring young people to embrace technology. He hopes to help the museum recruit top board members, reinvigorate its business model and “make The Tech increasingly relevant to the future of technology education,” Quattrone said in a written statement.
