Facts about the Asian continent | | Date Added: September 24, 2007 06:50:13 AM | Asia is known to be the world's largest continent, and the most populous continent as well. This continent alone covers about 8.6% of the total land area from the total surface area of the earth. It has a population of about four billion people and world's two most populous countries, China and India, are also a part of the Asian continent.
This continent contains 60% of the total human population in the world. It is considered to be in the North Eastern hemisphere, and is a part of land of Africa-Eurasia. Asia was considered as a continent first by Medieval Europeans, and is seperated from Africa by Isthmus of Seuz and the Red Sea. Between the Europe and Asia, there are many seas and mountains running. A few geographers still believe that Asia and Europe are not distinct continents as there is no physical seperation between them. The land of Middle East is still in discussion and debate as many still do not exactly know to which continent does it belong to.
Economy of Asia: Asia has the third-highest Gross Domestic Product (GDP), after USA and Europe. In Asia, India is one of the fastest economical growing country. Japan has the largest economy in the Asia, and the 2nd largest economy in the whole world. Once Japan's economy became highest equalling that of the USA, but again reachd 2nd going down, and is currently holding the same position. Asia is rich is natural resources such as Petroleum, Forestry products etc. The 3 main financial centers in Asia are Hong Kong, Singapore, and Tokyo. India and the Philippines holds the highest number of people working in the call centers. Due to its large and extremely competitive information technology industry, India has become a major hub for outsourcing.
There are several languages used in Asia. In Indonesia alone, there are more than 600 languages spoken and in India, about 415 languages are spoken. Only in Korea is a single language spoken. There are also many religions in Asia. |
